How to Shortlist Universities Based on Your Academic Profile

Build a balanced application list by comparing curriculum, requirements and personal priorities—not reputation alone.

Translate your profile into criteria

List your grades, subjects, test status, relevant work and course interests. Note any constraints around budget, location, intake or programme length.

Read programme pages closely

Compare modules, assessment, specialisations, placement structures and entry requirements. The right course is more specific than the right university name.

Create a balanced list

Include options with different levels of selectivity, but only where you would genuinely be willing to enrol. Labels such as ambitious or likely are planning tools, never promises.

Record the reason for every choice

Write two or three evidence-based reasons each programme belongs on the list. Remove choices supported only by a ranking or vague reputation.
